If you’re searching for a reliable trading platform, this in-depth look at MultiCharts covers everything you need to know. From what the platform is and its key features, to its pricing, backtesting accuracy, and what makes it stand out from the competition, we’ve got it all. You’ll also learn how to avoid scams related to MultiCharts and get answers to the most frequently asked questions. Let’s dive in.

Introduction

MultiCharts, also called “Multi Charts” is designed for algorithmic trading, backtesting, and market analysis. Note: This trading software isn’t recommended for beginners with no programming knowledge or experience. It relies on scripting languages like EasyLanguage and PowerLanguage for strategy development.

It features advanced tools to develop, test, and execute trading strategies efficiently. These features include:

  • Automated trading capabilities for executing strategies.
  • Multi-broker connectivity with some of the trustworthy brokers that support it including Dukascopy, Interactive Brokers, and Saxo Bank
  • Advanced charting with customizable indicators.
  • Backtesting tools to evaluate strategies using historical data. These tools include the Portfolio backtester, Strategy Backtester, and Walk Forward Testing. Backtesting evaluates a trading strategy using historical market data to see how it would have performed in the past. It can be a great way to assess the viability of your trading strategies before risking real money. For example, a strategy that shows strong results in backtesting may indicate potential profitability in live trading and vice versa.
  • EasyLanguage compatibility. EasyLanguage is a powerful and easy-to-learn programming language widely used in the trading industry due to its extensive range of trading ideas and strategies.

Besides Multi Charts, there’s MultiCharts.NET.

Both are developed by MultiCharts, LLC, a company specializing in trading software. The company is based in Columbus, Ohio, in the United States.

The difference between MultiCharts and MultiCharts.NET is as follows:

Multicharts is the standard, easy-to-use version that supports EasyLanguage and PowerLanguage. Note: These scripting languages are easier to learn compared to .NET, or C# and VB.NET languages.

Multicharts.NET, on the other hand, caters to traders and developers familiar with C# and VB.NET and want more possibilities. After all, the .NET 4.8 framework offers more possibilities than the PowerLanguage.

If you’re not comfortable with the .NET languages, MultiCharts .NET might not be the better choice for you. Try Multi Charts instead as it’s more user-friendly and easier to learn.

Is Multicharts Free or Paid?

There are both free and paid versions(Standard and Advanced) available.

While the Multicharts free version has limited features, it still includes essential tools like backtesting and optimization. To get Multi Charts for free, visit the product website, multicharts.com, click on “Pricing” and then select “Get Started” under the “Free” option.

The paid versions(i.e. the Standard and Advanced versions), on the other hand, give you access to the Multicharts’ advanced capabilities.

You can purchase a lifetime license or opt for a monthly or annual subscription.

The lifetime license costs $1,497 for the Standard version and $1,997 for the Advanced version.

Notably, the Advanced license includes all the features Multi Charts offers, followed by the Standard license, and then the free version with the most basic functionality.

If you prefer the subscription option, the monthly rates are $97 for the Standard license and $147 for the Advanced license. Meanwhile, the annual subscription costs $372 for Standard and $768 for Advanced licenses.

Notably, Multi Charts offers a 30-day free trial, after which you can select between various paid licenses.

Is MultiCharts Worth It?

For traders with programming skills who need advanced backtesting, automation, and charting tools — yes.

This professional-grade trading software platform can be a powerful resource for such traders, thanks to its exclusive tools such as Portfolio Trader, Walk-forward and Matrix Optimization,

However, it may not be suitable for traders without programming knowledge or experience as it relies on scripting languages.

Trade Station and NinjaTrader can be great alternatives.

How Accurate Is Backtesting In MultiCharts?

While backtesting is highly accurate, the quality of your backtest results depends on how well you configure key settings. The results may be inaccurate if you don’t adjust settings such as strategic logic, slippage, and data granularity correctly.

Can I Connect To Multiple Brokers Via Multicharts Simultaneously?

The short answer is yes. After all, this software features multi-broker connectivity. This outstanding feature goes a long way, especially for those who trade across various markets. It’s also great for those who want to diversify their executions across multiple brokerage accounts.

What Makes Multi Charts Different From The  Rest?

While Multicharts offers functionalities offered by many other software such as TradingView and Ninja Trader, a few features make it stand out. These include but are not limited to the following:

  • Institutional-grade backtesting functionalities that are more accurate and more customizable.
  • Multi-broker and multi-data feed integration. This allows users to connect to multiple brokers, route trades to different accounts, and use various data feeds, all simultaneously.
  • Professional and lighting-fast charting, which allows for super-fast rendering for large datasets.
  • The freedom to select your tools, brokers, and data sources.
  • Caters for both algorithmic traders, quantitative traders, and discretionary traders.

Can I run MultiCharts on MacOS, Windows, And Mobile Platforms?

  • MacOS—NO.
  • Windows—YES.
  • Android—NO.
  • iOS—-NO.

However, there are a few workarounds for MAC and mobile platforms(Android and iOS). For MAC OS, you can use third-party software such as Boot Camp, Parallels Desktop, and CrossOver. Similarly, Multicharts can be accessed on mobile through VNC or remote desktop apps, such as TeamViewer.

How You Can Be Scammed Through Multicharts

Scammers can potentially exploit MultiCharts users, using social engineering and other deceptive practices to trick unsuspecting users.

For example, they may claim to sell “guaranteed profit” strategies or custom indicators for MultiCharts. What’s more, they may post manipulated backtests or fake performance reports while posing as successful algorithm developers or professional traders. In every scenario,  they’ll demand upfront payment usually via crypto or other non-traceable methods.

To avoid falling for such scams, understand that there’s no such thing as a guaranteed profit in trading.

Also, make it a habit to verify the credibility of anyone selling indicators or strategies.

Ask for live trading results and verifiable client testimonials. Sellers who lack transparency are a big no.

Furthermore, avoid sellers who try to pressure you into making quick buying decisions e.g. by claiming a limited-time offer or that only a few spots are remaining, and so on.
